Tom joins the NERAK Team as a Technical Support Engineer, a role which links our Aftercare, Spare Parts and Operations Departments together to provide additional technical support.
NERAK very much values its customer, supplier and colleague relationships and Tom’s involvement is key to this.
Tom is an experienced manager from a retail background and always wanted to follow his dream of working in engineering. He’s delighted to be sharing knowledge from his HND in Mechanical Engineering and gathering more industry experience.
His time spent in management roles in Retail has been invaluable and is very much evident in his support and understanding of how critical great relationships within businesses are.
Tom, like everyone in NERAK believes exceptional service is the only level of service we should provide. “There are no traffic jams along the extra mile.”
Tom’s best kept secret is that he has represented Wales playing for the Welsh Rugby Union and Welsh Rugby League over 39 times.
He also played for the prestigious Scarlets Club based in Llanelli, Wales, a club which is one of the four professional Welsh Regional Rugby Union teams.
It goes without saying that Tom had an epic time supporting the Wales Team during the Six Nations and is now looking forward to the World Cup in Japan. With a number of fans favouring different teams, rugby games are always a reason for healthy banter in the NERAK Head Office, especially when it’s Wales ‘V’ England… Diplomacy is often necessary the Monday after a big game with some members of the team more delicate and subdued than others!
In more recent times Tom has done some fantastic sporting events for charity including a bike ride with his brother from London To Amsterdam for the Noah Ark Children’s Charity. They had a fantastic time doing it but he was glad not to have to cycle back! “Anyone who’s done long periods cycling will know exactly what I mean.”
Tom loves the freedom of travel. He has the explorer’s bug and spent a considerable amount of time travelling Australia with a previous girlfriend in a camper van they hired.
“ It was fantastic to see the sites, I’d recommend going to Australia to everyone, it’s a brilliant country to visit.”
After his return and intent on further travels, Tom purchased this camper to travel Europe in.
Tom’s a real people person, with a work hard play hard ethos. He loves joining in the fun. A lover of themed parties, he recently dressed up as a cheerleader to celebrate his girlfriend’s best friends birthday. It was fair to say he didn’t go unnoticed in the local pubs!
Previous to this, one of his more memorable fancy dress memories was trying to dance while dressed as a giant bottle of tequila;
“It’s not as easy as you’d think!”
For those of you that remember BBC One’s, Walk on the Wild Side, this is the reason why Tom says if he was to change his name, it would have to be to ‘Alan” in memory of this clip…
As a child Chicken Nuggets, especially the Mc Donald’s variety was a family must have, so much so that for his brothers birthday Tom decided to make a McChicken Nugget birthday cake containing a mere 100 nuggets. He adds, it was imperative to have BBQ sauce with them, I’d have to agree there!
It’s clear when you speak to Tom that he has a genuine love of life and being with people. He’s an advocate for achievement and if he could have dinner with one person with celebrity status, he would love it to be President Obama “He must be such a fascinating person and have so many pearls of wisdom to share.”
